Children Community
In the vibrant city of Jakarta, where wealth coexists with poverty, there is a group of the most vulnerable population who experience daily challenges on top of stigma and discrimination. Often they cannot fully grasp their own living situation: it is beyond our imagination to understand.
LAP was founded with a mission to improve the quality of lives of children and adolescents living with HIV in Indonesia and advocate for their rights. We are dedicated to support children, adolescents, families impacted by HIV with compassion.
LAP recognizes that the needs of our beneficiaries extends beyond basic needs such as nutrition and access to medical care. They face daily challenges in navigating the complexities of living with HIV in a limited resources environment where stigma and discrimination are still very high. LAP provide multidisciplinary support, including psychosocial support to foster resilience and positive living, one child at a time.
"Give them the opportunities so they can reach their dreams."
Empowering Futures of Adolescents
As LAP celebrates its 16th year in August 2025, some of children we cared are entering their teens and youth. Currently, 65% of our beneficiaries are teens (adolescents), ages 10-19 years old.
Teenage is a special phase where children are experiencing dramatic changes as they go through puberty: physical, hormonal, and emotional. Teens become more vulnerable as their caregiver ages, making more teens concerned over losing their caregiver and/or being abandoned. Teens face tremendous challenges as they navigate day-to-day life and see very little hope in their future. A few of them were unable to overcome those challenges, fall into depression, and give up.
Therefore, it is crucial for LAP to embrace and empower teens to not lose hope, to lead a positive life, to inspire others through Empowering Futures for Adolescents program, which has been an active program since 2023.

Caregiver Community
The caregivers community is a space for the primary companions of children and adolescents living with HIV, whether parents, grandparents, or other family members. Within this community, caregivers share experiences, knowledge, and mutual support. LAP sees caregivers as a vital source of strength in the growth and development of children.
Therefore, many caregivers have taken on larger roles in LAP activities, which inspired the idea of involving them as Case Managers (CM). Because of their lived experiences and personal connections, they can better understand the needs of both the children and other caregivers.
Regeneration also happens through the Peer Champion program, where young LAP beneficiaries step forward to become future Case Managers and support their peers. As they grow into this role, they receive guidance in communication, leadership, and hands-on mentoring alongside CMs.

Caregiver for Child with Special Needs Community
The caregivers community also welcomes those who look after children with special needs. Their journey is not easy because they carry a double responsibility of caring for a child living with HIV while also responding to special needs that often require extra medical attention, thoughtful parenting, and daily support.
At LAP, we strive to create a safe space where caregivers can share their stories, learn from one another, and access trusted information on medical care. Through this community, caregivers walk side by side, making sure their children have every chance to grow, develop, and live to their fullest potential.
