In the vibrant city of Jakarta, where wealth coexists with poverty, there is a group of the most vulnerable population who experience daily challenges on top of stigma and discrimination. Often they cannot fully grasp their own living situation: it is beyond our imagination to understand.
Understanding the Challenges
Children and adolescents living with HIV face diverse challenges, especially in low-income areas. Stigma and discrimination can drastically reduce their quality of life. A staggering 80% of children living with HIV in Indonesia come from economically disadvantaged families, making it hard to provide basic needs, much less the specialized care they require.
Moreover, limited understanding and awareness of HIV in these communities often lead to isolation and neglect. A study found that 70% of families with an HIV-positive child felt socially ostracized. This situation highlights the critical necessity for organizations like LAP to step in and provide essential support.
The Mission of LAP
LAP was founded with a clear mission: to advocate for the rights and well-being of children and adolescents living with HIV and their families. LAP is dedicated to support these vulnerable families can access their basic needs.
LAP understands that addressing the basic needs, including nutrition and medical care is just one piece of the puzzle. By offering multidisciplinary support, LAP empowers families, helping them navigate the complexities of living with HIV. This approach plays an essential role in fostering resilience and improving the overall quality of life for them.
"Give them the opportunities so they can reach their dreams."
